BOEM Completes Gulf of Mexico Offshore Wind Energy Environmental Review

The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management today announced its completion of a final environmental assessment on potential impacts of offshore wind leasing in federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico, with a finding of no significant impact.

BOEM Director Elizabeth Klein called completion of the review “an important step forward to advance clean energy development in a responsible manner while promoting economic vitality and well-paying jobs in the Gulf of Mexico region,” adding that “[w]e will continue to work closely with our [Gulf of Mexico Intergovernmental Renewable Energy] task force members, ocean users, and others to ensure that any development in the region is done responsibly and in a way that avoids, reduces, or mitigates potential impacts to ocean users and the marine environment.”
