BOEM Seeks Comments on Wind Energy Leasing in Gulf of Maine

The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management today announced its request for information and nominations by Monday, June 12 regarding potential commercial wind energy development in ~9.8 million acres in the Gulf of Maine off Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.

As part of the comment period, BOEM specifically seeks comments on the suitability of the following areas for potential wind energy development: Lobster Management Area I, Platts Bank, Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Plan Restricted Areas, and Georges Bank.

BOEM Director Elizabeth Klein noted the agency’s commitment to “transparent, inclusive and data-driven process,” with BOEM Project Coordinator Zach Jylkka added that “[t]he success of BOEM’s commercial leasing process hinges upon continued public input.”
