State Dept. to Hold Meetings Ahead of IMO Gatherings

The State Dept. today announced that it will hold a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 15 in preparation for the 109th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Legal Committee, to be held remotely Mar. 21-25.  Agenda items include measures to assess the need to amend liability limits and technical cooperation activities related to maritime legislation, among other things.

The State Dept. separately announced last week that it will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 22 to prepare for the 9th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Subcommittee on Pollution Prevention and Response, to be held remotely Apr. 4-8.  Agenda items include development of an operational guide on the response to spills of hazardous and noxious substances, reduction of the impact of black carbon emissions on the Arctic, and development of measures to reduce the risk and use of heavy fuel oil as fuel by ships in Arctic waters, among other things.
