U.S. National Climate Task Force Holds Fourth Meeting

The National Climate Task Force led by Assistant to the President and National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy today held its fourth meeting.

According to a White House summary, among other things Task Force members discussed the whole-of-government effort to address climate impacts on U.S. communities, the summer weather outlook, near-term readiness plans to address weather risks, and long-term resilience measures.

During the meeting, White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Brenda Mallory highlighted the importance of land and water conservation and restoration in addressing climate change and gave an update on administration efforts to implement the 30×30 conservation effort, which the White House referred to as “locally-led, voluntary stewardship efforts” in pursuit of the “first-ever national conservation goal.”  Additionally, Interior Sec. Deb Haaland talked about displacement implications associated with climate impacts on coastal communities, including Alaska Native villages.

The Task Force is charged with supporting the organization and deployment of a government-wide approach to combat the climate crisis, including by facilitating planning and implementation of key actions including ocean, water, land, and biodiversity conservation.
