DOI Announces New Staff

The Interior Department today announced the appointment of new leadership staff, including Lawrence (Larry) Roberts to serve as Chief of StaffSteve Feldgus to serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals ManagementDr. Eric Werwa to serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget, and Mackenzie Landa to serve as Advisor to the Deputy Secretary.

Roberts has been a Professor at Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, with previous experience including positions as Acting Assistant Interior Sec. for Indian Affairs, Principal Deputy Assistant Interior Sec. for Indian Affairs, and General Counsel at the National Indian Gaming Commission.

Feldgus’s experience includes positions as Deputy Staff Director for the U.S. House Natural Resources Committee, Staff Director for the House Natural Resources Energy and Minerals Subcommittee, and service at the Interior Department’s Bureaus of Safety & Environmental Enforcement and Land Management.

Werwa most recently served as Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for then-U.S. Rep. Deb Haaland (D-NM), with previous experience including positions as Legislative Director for U.S. Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) and Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for U.S. Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA).

Landa most recently worked as Counsel to U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), with previous service as Counsel to the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.
