UN Biodiversity Summit Set for September 30

With a theme of “Urgent Action on Biodiversity for Sustainable Development,” the United Nations Biodiversity Summit is set to take place on Wednesday, Sept. 30.  The Summit, which will be convened at the level of Heads of State and Government, will highlight the need for action in support of a global biodiversity framework that contributes to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and “placed the global community on a path” to achieving the 2050 Vision for Biodiversity for “Living in harmony with nature.”

The Summit will include dialogue on (1) addressing biodiversity loss and mainstreaming biodiversity for sustainable development and (2) harnessing science, technology and innovation, capacity-building, access and benefit-sharing, financing, and partnerships for biodiversity.

In addition to special remarks from HRH Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales and an indigenous youth from India recently appointed to the UN Secretary-General’s Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change, the Summit agenda includes a provisional plenary session speaker list of 36 Heads of State and Government.
