ACCOBAMS Scientific Committee to Hold Meeting

The Scientific Committee for The Agreement for the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area (ACCOBAMS) is set to hold its 13th Meeting on Feb. 26-28 in Cap d’Ail, France.

The provisional agenda includes discussion of conservation actions, including (1) improved knowledge about the state of cetaceans; (2) reduction of human pressures on cetaceans (including a focus on anthropogenic noise, ship strikes, marine litter, chemical/biological pollution, interaction with fisheries, and climate change), and (3) enhancing effective conservation of critical habitat.

Additional discussion will focus on collaboration and institutional issues, including improved implementation of and compliance with ACCOBAMS resolutions and cooperation with international organizations including sub-regional coordination units, ACCOBAMS partners, and other organizations.
