The National Ocean Policy Coalition today submitted comments to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in response to their request for ideas on deregulation.
To avoid significant harm to interests ranging from fishing and energy to waterborne transportation and beyond that depend on ocean access to provide the nation with economic and societal benefits, the Coalition urged OMB to work with the National Marine Fisheries Service to take all steps necessary to revise the Rice’s whale critical habitat rule proposed in 2023 and finalize a critical habitat designation that is based on sound science and reflective of updated and complete economic impact analysis.
