Comments Sought on Draft EIS for Offshore Wind Project Off New Jersey

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management today announced that it is seeking comments by Monday, July 3 on a draft environmental impact statement for the construction and operations plan for the proposed Atlantic Shores South Wind Project offshore New Jersey.  In conjunction with the comment period, BOEM will hold public hearings in Manahawkin, NJ (Wednesday, June 21), Atlantic City, NJ (Thursday, June 22), and virtually (Monday, June 26 and Wednesday, June 28).

The proposed action is the construction, installation, operations and maintenance, and eventual decommissioning of the project, which would include up to 200 wind turbine generators, up to 10 offshore substations, 1 permanent meteorological tower, up to 4 temporary meteorological and oceanographic buoys, inter-array and inter-link cables, up to 2 onshore substations, 1 operations and maintenance facility, and up to 8 transmission cables.

BOEM Director Elizabeth Klein highlighted the agency’s commitment to working with Tribal nations, government agency partners, lessees, environmental organizations, local communities, ocean users and others,” adding that “[b]y working together, we can build a strong, enduring offshore wind industry that ensures American communities across the nation benefit from good paying jobs and clean, reliable, domestic renewable energy.”
