NOAA today announced that the Ocean Research Advisory Panel (ORAP) will hold a public meeting on Dec. 13-14.
Meeting outcome goals include a shared understanding between ORAP and the Ocean Policy Committee (OPC) on interests, capacities, opportunities, and expectations regarding ORAP efforts, as well as identification of initial topics for ORAP work and associated ORAP structures and processes to accomplish the work.
In addition to ORAP members and representatives of the Ocean Science and Technology Subcommittee and National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP), meeting participants will include:
- Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans & Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator Dr. Rick Spinrad
- White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair and OPC Co-Chair Brenda Mallory
- White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Deputy Director for Climate and Environment Jane Lubchenco
- OSTP Assistant Director for Ocean Policy Deerin Babb-Brott
- CEQ Deputy Director for Ocean Resource Management Amanda Carter
Established under the FY 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, ORAP advises the OPC on policies and procedures to implement the NOPP, matters relating to national oceanographic science, engineering, facilities, or resource requirements, improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the ocean sciences and related fields, advising the OPC on national ocean research priorities, and any additional responsibilities that the OPC considers appropriate.
