DOI Announces Significant Increase in Gulf of America O&G Reserves

The Interior Department today announced that new Bureau of Ocean Energy Management analysis reflects a ~23% increase in estimated total oil and natural gas reserves in the Gulf of America, rising 1.30 billion barrels of oil equivalent to 7.04 billion barrels of oil equivalent between 2021 and 2025 (5.77 billion barrels of oil and 7.15 trillion cubic feet of gas).

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said the new analysis “confirms what we’ve known all along—America is sitting on a treasure trove of energy, and under President Trump’s leadership, we’re unlocking it,” calling the Gulf of America “a powerhouse, and by streamlining permitting and expanding access, we’re not just powering our economy—we’re strengthening our national security and putting thousands of Americans back to work.”
