State Dept. Announces Public Meetings Ahead of IMO Gatherings

The State Dept. recently announced that it will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, May 7 in preparation for the 12th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Subcommittee on Navigation, Communication, and Search & Rescue, to be held in London on May 13-22.

Agenda items to be considered at the IMO meeting include routing measures and mandatory ship reporting systems, developments in Global Maritime Distress & Safety System services (including guidelines on maritime safety information), development of global maritime search and rescue services, and unified interpretation of provisions of IMO safety, security, environment, facilitation, liability, and compensation-related conventions.

The State Dept. today separately announced that it will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, May 27 in preparation for the 75th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Technical Cooperation Committee, to be held in London on June 4.

Agenda items to be considered at the IMO meeting include resource mobilization and partnerships, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and capacity building (strengthening the impact of women in the maritime sector).
