The National Ocean Policy Coalition today submitted comments on the National Marine Fisheries Service’s Request for Information on its status review of the Rice’s whale. NOPC’s comments highlight new information obtained since NMFS’ last status review in 2016 that raises serious questions about the scientific basis and process utilized to list the Gulf of Mexico Bryde’s whale and reclassify it as the Rice’s whale.
