NOAA today announced that the designation of the Papahānaumokuākea National Marine Sanctuary and related regulations became effective March 3, 2025, following the Jan. 16, 2025 final rule publication and a 45-day congressional review period. NOAA noted that the agency is reviewing the final rule for consistency with the Trump administration’s policies and executive orders, including the Executive Order on Ensuring Lawful Governance and Implementing the President’s “Department of Government Efficiency” Deregulatory Initiative.
