U.S. Central Atlantic Lease Sale Nets ~$93M

The Interior Department today held a wind energy auction for federal waters off the coast of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia that generated provisional winning bids by Equinor Wind US LLC and Virginia Electric and Power Co. of $93 million and over $23 million in bidding credits that will support workforce training and domestic supply chain investments and fisheries compensatory mitigation.

Interior Sec. Deb Haaland said that DOI’s offshore wind approvals “are demonstrating that, in partnership with states, Tribes, ocean users and industry, we can build an entirely new and sustainable industry that will meet the growing demands of our nation far into the future, while creating good-paying jobs and helping mitigate the threat of the climate crisis.”

White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi added that the sale “reflects the forward momentum we are seeing to power millions of American homes with clean energy and create good-paying, climate jobs,” with Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Director Elizabeth Klein calling it “a major milestone in meeting the demand for clean renewable energy along the East Coast.”
