NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service today announced that it is seeking comments by Monday, Sept. 12 on its 90-day finding that a revised critical habitat designation for the North Pacific right whale may be warranted.
The finding was made in response to a petition filed by the Center for Biological Diversity and Save the North Pacific Right Whale seeking to connect the two existing critical habitat areas. Existing critical habitat for this species currently encompasses 36,635 sq. miles in the Gulf of Alaska and Southeast Bering Sea.
