NOAA today announced the appointment of 13 individuals to serve on the inaugural Board of Directors for the Marine Debris Foundation, which was established pursuant to the Save Our Seas Act 2.0 of 2020 to augment NOAA efforts to assess, prevent, reduce, and remove marine debris and address the adverse effects of marine debris on the U.S. economy, marine environment, and navigation safety.
The Board members include representatives of Icicle Seafoods, Peloton, Product Stewardship Institute, National Geographic Explorer, Ocean Conservancy, The Ocean Foundation, Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives, Scoot Science, Education Incubator, University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences/Alaska Sea Grant, and the University of Georgia, as well as a former U.S. Agency for International Development Acting Asst. Admin. and NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad (ex-officio).
