The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management today announced that it is seeking comments by Thursday, Sept. 30 on its intent to prepare an environmental impact statement for the review of a construction and operations plan submitted by Sunrise Wind LLC to construct and operate a wind energy facility in federal waters off Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York. The facility would interconnect with an existing substation in Long Island, NY.
Interior Sec. Deb Haaland called offshore wind a “critical component” of addressing climate change, creating good-paying jobs, and a cleaner energy future, stating that “[t]he demand for offshore wind energy has never been greater — we will continue to invest in the infrastructure to develop the offshore wind industry and to help attract the domestic supply chain.”
