The State Department today announced that the United States will partner with Palau on the Our Ocean Conference scheduled to take place early next year in Koror, Palau.
The announcement called the conference “a pivotal moment to spur global ocean action,” and noted that “[i]t is critical to work together with partners around the globe to mobilize commitments to advance sustainable fishing, promote marine protected areas, combat ocean plastic pollution, support maritime security, foster a blue economy, and create an ocean resilient to climate impacts.”
The State Dept. added that the Paris Agreement goals must be kept “within reach” in order to protect the ocean and that the U.S. looks forward to working with other nations and partners to ensure that the conference “carries forward the momentum on ‘ocean and climate action’” and “brings forward meaningful and actionable commitments” following the Nov. 2021 United Nations climate conference in Glasgow.
