The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management today announced its decision to publish a Call for Information and Nominations tomorrow for a second regional offshore wind energy sale in an area comprised of ~13.5 million acres in the Central Atlantic off the coasts of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Public input is due by Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, and in-person and virtual open house meetings will take place on Sept. 17 (Morehead City, NC), Sept. 18 (Virginia Beach, VA), Sept. 24 (Ocean City, MD), Sept. 25 (Rehoboth Beach, DE), and Sept. 26 (Atlantic City, NJ), and Oct. 2 (virtual). The Central Atlantic Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force will also hold a virtual meeting where the public can provide comments on Sept. 10-11.
BOEM Director Elizabeth Klein called the forthcoming public engagement process “an important avenue to solicit information as we identify potential areas that may be suitable for future offshore wind energy leasing,” noting her agency’s efforts to “achiev[e] the ambitious goals of the Biden-Harris administration to fight climate change and create good-paying jobs.”
