The Ocean Policy Committee (OPC) today posted a readout of the June 3, 2024 OPC Deputies Meeting. The meeting included a review of OPC activities over the past year, including administration actions to conserve, protect, and restore the ocean, as well as briefings on the recently-released National Strategy for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, the National Ocean Biodiversity Strategy, the National Strategy on Aquatic eDNA, implementation of the Ocean Climate Action Plan, and Ocean Research Advisory Panel activities.
The group also received a briefing from the Ocean Co-Use working group regarding efforts on advancing availability of data and tools, fostering interagency relationships, and promoting use of MarineCadastre.gov, discussed shared data platforms and ways that OPC can prioritize such efforts, and talked about actions that may be included in OPC’s next Action Plan, including implementation of key actions under the National Strategy for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.
OPC, which plans to hold a principal-level meeting in Fall 2024, was established in 2018 to coordinate federal actions on ocean-related matters, and was codified into law under the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act.
