NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service today announced that it is seeking comments by Monday, May 22 on its proposal to authorize Attentive Energy, LLC to take small numbers of 15 species of marine mammals by Level B harassment incidental to high-resolution geophysical surveys off New York and New Jersey in the New York Bight. The surveys would involve the use of up to two vessels, non-impulsive parametric sub-bottom profilers, multibeam echosounders, and side scan sonars.
NMFS today also announced that it is seeking comments by Monday, May 22 on its proposal to authorize Community Offshore Wind, LLC to take small numbers of 15 species of marine mammals by Level B harassment incidental to high-resolution geophysical surveys off New York and New Jersey in the New York Bight. The surveys would involve the use of up to three vessels, medium penetration sub-bottom profilers, and a multibeam echosounder.
NMFS separately recently announced that it is seeking comments by Monday, May 15 on its proposal to authorize Empire Offshore Wind, LLC to take 2 species of marine mammals by Level A harassment and 17 species of marine mammals by Level B harassment incidental to the construction of the Empire Wind Project offshore New York. The proposed rule, which includes a series of mitigation measures including a seasonal moratorium on impact pile driving, would be effective from Jan. 22, 2024 – Jan. 21, 2029 and include the installation of 147 wind turbine generator monopiles.
