NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries today announced the establishment of the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council, and requested nominations from individuals interested in serving on the Council by Oct. 1.
Voting seats will be held by the following representatives: Citizen-at-Large (3), Diving/Dive Clubs/Archaeology (2), History, Heritage and Public Interpretation (2), Tourism and Marketing (2), Education (K–12), Education (Higher Education), Economic Development, Fishing, Recreation, and Maritime Industry (1 each).
The Council will provide advice and recommendations on the sanctuary management plan and serve as a liaison between the sanctuary and constituents and community groups, with voting members chosen based on their particular expertise and experience in relation to the seat for which they are applying, community and professional affiliations; views regarding the protection and management of marine or Great Lakes resources, and possibly (though not required) the length of residence in the area affected by the site.
