NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service today announced that information is being sought by Dec. 31 on (1) nations or entities whose vessels are engaged in illegal, unreported, or unregulated (IUU) fishing practices that result in the bycatch of protected living marine resources without a regulatory program comparable in effectiveness to that of the United States; and (2) fishing activities in international waters that target or incidentally catch sharks without a regulatory program comparable to that of the United States.
The information is being sought for review in accordance with the High Seas Driftnet Fishing Moratorium Protection Act’s requirement for a biennial report to Congress on the information described above. The last report identifying such nations, entities, and fishing activities was submitted to Congress in Aug. 2021.
