The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today announced that comments are being sought by Monday, Nov. 8 on the South Atlantic Coastal Study Draft Report, which was authorized and funded by Congress in 2016 following a series of hurricanes that impacts the Corps’ South Atlantic Division.
The Study is focused on managing coastal storm risk to people, infrastructure, and environmental resources in coastal areas of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The goals of the study are to provide a common operating picture of coastal risk, identify high-risk locations and focus current and future resources, identify and assess risk reduction actions, promote and support resilient coastal communities, promote sustainable projects and programs, and leverage supplemental actions. The study also identifies activities warranting further analysis and institutional barriers to implementation.
