NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service today announced that it is extending the comment period through Wednesday, Feb. 24 on the Interagency Working Group on Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing’s Work Plan. While comments were originally due by Jan. 15, NMFS is extending the comment period in response to public requests for additional time to provide input.
The Work Plan is to form the basis of a 5-year strategic plan that must be submitted to Congress by Dec. 31, 2021 and reflects the initial focus of federal actions under the Working Group, which was established by Congress in 2019. Proposed Work Plan activities include the use of maritime intelligence and the involvement of the military.
