The Maritime Administration today announced that nominations are being sought by Monday, Feb. 8 to fill vacancies on the U.S. Maritime Transportation System National Advisory Committee. MARAD noted that it will continue to accept applications for up to 2 years after the deadline to fill any further vacancies.
Members will be selected to ensure representation of interests including active mariners, vessel operators, port authorities and terminal operators, shippers or beneficial cargo owners, the ship construction, repair and/or recycling industries, relevant policy areas such as innovative financing, economic competitiveness, performance monitoring, safety, insurance, labor, and environment, freight customers and providers, and government bodies.
The Committee, which is tasked with identifying and seeking solutions to impediments hindering effective use of short sea transportation, was established in 1999 and codified in 2007 by the Energy Independence and Security Act.
