NOAA today announced a new pilot program with Vulcan Inc. to use an information tool known as Skylight to help identify Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. Under the partnership, potential approaches will also be developed to increase the use of maritime domain awareness in support of North Atlantic right whale protection and conservation.
Asst. Sec. of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Deputy NOAA Admin. Tim Gallaudet said that NOAA scientists with work with Vulcan “to help tackle some of the biggest challenges facing our Blue Economy,” adding that “[w]hen U.S. science and technology agencies and leading private sector firms work together, we can achieve great success in tackling real-world challenges while also fostering innovative approaches.”
