NOAA Renews Ocean Mapping and Exploration Partnership

NOAA today announced the 3-year renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding with Ocean X to continue collaboration on ocean mapping, exploration, and science, including through sharing of best practices, collaboration on coral reef research, monitoring, and development of uncrewed coral monitoring technologies, development of data sharing processes, and standardization of best practices for obtaining and archiving environmental generic samples from the ocean.

NOAA Administrator Dr. Rick Spinrad called public-private partnerships “essential to accelerating NOAA’s mission of using the latest science and data to power the New Blue Economy and help us understand the ocean’s key role in influencing our weather and climate, protect valuable marine ecosystems, and sustainably manage ocean resources.”

Ocean X Co-Chief Executive Officer Dr. Vincent Pieribone said that his company is “thrilled to build upon our partnership with the nation’s leading science agency to create a global community that is dedicated to understanding, enjoying, and protecting our ocean.”
