USCG Seeks Comments on Puerto Rico/USVI Port Access Route Study

The Coast Guard today announced that it is seeking comments by Thursday, July 6 on its evaluation of safe access routes for the movement of vessel traffic proceeding to or from the ports or places in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and whether shipping safety fairways and/or routing measures should be established, adjusted, or modified.   Requests for a public meeting are due by Monday, May 8.

The Coast Guard noted that the Port Access Route Study will consider whether such measures are needed to improve navigation safety due to factors like planned or potential offshore development, current port capabilities and planned improvements, increased vessel traffic, existing and potential anchorage areas, changing vessel traffic patterns, weather conditions, or navigational difficulty.
